Last ride before lockdown

Caroline and a few friends went on their last ride before lockdown. Being without the horses is going to be so hard for all the owners and riders at the Ranch. For a lot of people their horse time is their time out, their head space, their downtime from busy lives. It’s a chance to learn, to get fit, to laugh and to enjoy very special moments.

This was one of them.

A lovely ride along the local routes, riverbed and beach to a wonderful tapas bar with tie up area for horses. A last beer together in the afternoon sunshine before everything changes.

This was Ringo’s first time on the beach with us. He was a little sweated up taking it all in but enjoyed it. He is a really wonderful and unique horse and we secretly think Caroline’s new favourite. He has a Paso short energetic stride and body position that is unlike any of the other horses at the Ranch. But super comfortable and a very fun ride.

Beach and bar ride

Our experienced riders and horse owners went off for a beach and bar ride this week. For some of the horses it was their first or second time on the beach, which is always fun. The sea isn’t tidal here so it is usually in the same place, but it can be noisy on the pebbles by the wave line. Some of the horses take the different surface under their hooves and the noise and smell in their stride. Others need a little encouragement. It was a hot day so the riders stopped at the beachside bar for a little light refreshment before heading back to the Ranch. A great beach and bar ride!

Mountain hacks in Estepona

It is so beautiful in the early Spring and we absolutely love the mountain hacks in Estepona, riding up through the rivers. The views are spectacular, the wildflower carpets are flourishing and it’s just green everywhere. The air is fresh but warm.

And we have taken a lot of people up on the mountain trails to share this wonderful space with them.

Just a few photos from our mountain hacks in Estepona from the last weeks. Why not come and join us?

Spring blossom

After the rainy days recently, the land starts to say thank you. We have some rather beautiful Spring blossom up in the mountains.

The grass is luscious and green, there are flowers appearing and the tree blossom is just stunning. We stop at the viewpoint on our mountain horse rides to admire the view, and the Spring blossom makes the best backdrop for photos, of course!

Deer in the hills!

You never know what you’ll find out on a horse ride in Estepona – today it was deer in the hills!

Deer in the hills

We also saw a baby goat just born a few minutes before. And of course a lot of stunning views on the Mountain and Rivers ride. This ride can be done at a walk / trot or for more experienced riders trot and canter.

We cover 15-20 km on this ride. Horses and riders love it!

River ride Estepona

River ride Estepona with Ranch Siesta Los Rubios We had a little rain in January and the rivers started flowing again. The horses and riders both love to come on a river ride Estepona. Why not join us? After the rains the mountains are suddenly green and lush again.

Sunset view – horses of Estepona

Well isn’t this an amazing view through the ears of a horse? Sunrise and sunset is incredible at Ranch Siesta Los Rubios. The sun rolls on up over the sea and sets behind the Sierra Bermeja mountains, called the Red Mountains.

It’s wonderful to go riding here and this shot sums it all up – the best sunset view. Horses of Estepona!

Cycling Sierra Bermeja, Estepona

Every day we are sharing the mountains we ride in with cyclists and hikers. We love to see them and often photograph each other.

Cycling Sierra Bermeja – our back garden, our playground and our little bit of paradise behind Estepona.

Whether on two feet, wheels or 4 hooves get out and see and enjoy this wonderful natural park and it’s 100 km of trails.

Sunset horse riding Costa Del Sol

Join us on a fabulous sunset horse riding Costa del Sol adventure up into the Sierra Bermeja mountains behind Estepona.

Because of the heat and wanting to protect the horses (as well as their riders!) we ride for sunrise and sunset in the summer months.

It’s cool, quiet and simply an incredible experience. It’s no wonder we are Number 1 of Outdoor Activities on Tripadvisor with 100% 5 star reviews. Would you like to come with us?

Playing in the water – horse riding Estepona

Its hot out there and some horses just can’t resist a proper play in the plunge pool in the river!

The river dries up mostly in Summer but we know a few secret spots where the water stays longer.

After two hours of fantastic mountain trails this was just what the horses needed. Not all are keen but if we take the tack off, a few of our water babies here just run in, lie down, wiggle around and never want to come out!

Horse riding Estepona – the best few hours of fun you can ever have! Our mountain rides are 2.5-3 hours for riders who can trot and canter. We have other rides for people with less or no experience. During the hot months our rides go out at sunrise and for sunset to keep humans and horses cool (and healthy!)
